Day 3

with 2 comments

On day 3, we started as refreshed as ever.

The Batch 3 joined in for their production session. Inder helped the individual groups with their cameras and crew, and off they went for their film shoots. all of us faculties, went and checked on them, helping them on field, if they needed. They were back after an hour, with their footage, and war with the PCs and editing software problem began. Nikki as expected, was such a great help. Also I heartily thank one of the helping members of organizing committee, Ankit, for his support in the editing session for both the batches.

Batch 4 with the same schedule, went out for their shoots and then received their editing explanatory session by us, so that they could also dwelve in the awaiting opportunities world of editing their raw footage. By the forth time, all of us were pretty comfortable handling the troubles with PCs and all. Some problems remained there even after we tried our best, but then some accidents are inevitable I think.

The next and the last session of the workshop was screening of some films made in the

workshop and open discussion. The late end of session for Batch 4 meant that we had less time to look at all the films ourselves and decide on the ones to show in Auditorium Hall. But we managed to do that, and had all things setup at Kresit Auditorium Hall just in time. A few technical difficulties troubled us there, but we were able to over come it with the help of organizers.

The screening begun, the discussion and comments/compliments were happening the same time. A few harsh words, and a few complaints down the line, most of them probably realized the value of critics in filmmaking.

We had a surprise for our students before the screening ended though. We had chosen a film from all the final productions, and selected one group who made it, to give them the recognition and prize that they deserved for it. The “Thrilleria” group, from Batch 4, received the title as the best filmmakers of all the students, mostly for the reason that they had used the knowledge that they gained in the workshop in a most effective way to make the film. And it had showed, as after the screening of their film, the whole auditorium had approved our decision with the applause.

IIT organizers had a surprise for us too. They honored us, with a memento along with lovely words about the sure success of DFM workshop, a first of its kind to be held in IIT Techfest for the first time.

With that, officially the workshop ended. Though we still lingered around the audi, meeting all the students, talking to them, numbers/emails/vcards exchanging, receiving warm goodbyes and welcomed promises to pursue the hobby of fimmaking more seriously than before.

And at the end of the day, the satisfaction to be successfully able to conduct the whole workshop, gave us a new found courage to attempt more workshops like this.

IIT Delhi, at Tryst 07, then invited us for a small workshop, and we gladly accepted the proposal, cause after all, this journey had just started.. and its a long long way to go.

Cheers for FTFM!
